KAPYAD, INITIATION OF INSPECTION PROCESS IN CAPPADOCIA AFTER KARTALKAYA FIRE
The devastating fire at the Grand Kartal Hotel in Bolu Kartalkaya on January 21, 2025, which tragically claimed the lives of 78 citizens, brought fire safety in accommodation facilities to the top of the national agenda.
In this context, inspection processes for accommodation facilities in Cappadocia were also reconsidered. In accordance with communications issued by the T.R. Nevşehir Governorship Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, it was decided that all facilities in the region would undergo comprehensive inspections for fire safety and regulatory compliance by May 30, 2025.
The official communication emphasized:
- Termination of facility operations upon detection of serious deficiencies threatening life and property safety,
- Suspension of operations for facilities without business opening and operating licenses,
- Mandatory inspections under the Regulation on Fire Protection of Buildings.
KAPYAD coordinated with investors and operators in the region during this process, working in close contact with the Cappadocia Area Authority and the Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism to ensure that inspections were conducted in a fair, applicable, and technically sound framework.
